Awesome Avon Gardens

25 May

As I surveyed my “south lawn” today, it occurred to me I should have a post crediting the vision, talent, resources available to me at Avon Gardens.

"South Lawn"

Karen Robbins and her staff are professionals.  They prepared three curvy, island beds in a “sea” of grassy lawn which prolifically bloom spring to fall as well have interest in the winter.  I estimate the square footage at 1800.  The golden quartz flagstone patio off the master bedroom showcases a “moon” garden concept of white blooms of many varieties.  The latest contracted project replaced our 23 year old foundation plantings with boxwood, Japanese maples, hydrangeas, knock-out roses to name a few specimens.

Avon Gardens is a destination to remember.  Many wedding parties gather for outdoor weddings on the grounds spring to fall.

Red Gold

22 May

Next to tomatoes grown in my backyard, my favorite tomato products are sold by Red Gold.  The canned products seasoned with Italian or chili flavors are particularly good.  www.redgold.com

I took this photo at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.  (This year is the 100th anniversary.)  The condiment cart struck me as a brilliant marketing strategy.

Roaming for wild flowers

Another opportunity to photograph spring wildflowers!

My first opportunity was in Dottie Miller’s backyard a couple of weeks ago.  We consolidated our digital photographs and prepared a photobook on Kodakgallery.com.

Today my sister and I found three Jack-in-the-Pulpits in her front yard in Malvern, PA.

Artwork and ceramics are a couple of ways of bringing the outdoors inside.  These examples are great for Easter and year round.

More about prayer shawls

Labor of love

This is the fourth prayer shawl that Shelby and I made and this one is for me….or should I say “us”?  It is a mushroom colored lamb’s wool blend.

Our fifth one is a new pattern for us.  We moved up to intermediate skill level.  This is a first with the cable pattern.  It is made of a lamb’s wool blend with shimmer.  The color is “White Frost”.  The pattern features the number 12 with repeating rows and tassels.

Sew simple

20 Mar

The fabric captured my imagination and thoughts of friends and family traveling in Europe.  Naturally, I brought home a piece and pondered how to share it with my favorite globe trotters.  The answer came in the mail!  This project is featured in Sew News April/May 2011, pp.56-7 “Office Manager”.  I have enough fabric to make six 🙂

The TO DO list for the next four weeks includes trimming the last remaining perennials of last year’s foliage, strategically adding (bagged) compost, mulching and taking photos to post!
