Baltimore Album reimagined

4 Feb

By definition, “Baltimore Album” is a style of quilt originated in the 1840s most often appliqué on white blocks. For this project I stacked fabric “blocks” and bound one edge with ribbon (alternative to paper book). The “story” will be from Derek and Zoe’s imagination as bold images are revealed turning “pages”.

Backstory: Some years ago I discovered https://www.spoonflower.com/en/how-it-works in a magazine in a doctor’s office waiting room. Spoonflower.com will print your images on fabric…even bolts of fabric…even offer them for sale to the public! I did upload 10 photos and got proofs in return. The lilac and spruce images on cotton (above, right sides) are two of the ten. Voila! My samples are incorporated in children’s “books”.

Love this from Spoonflower

Linen-Cotton Canvas Ultra:  Fat Quarter with 2016 calendar.  There are dozens of designs available @ spoonflower.com

Finish the edges with rolled hem.  Easy, beautiful, dual purpose (tea towel and calendar).

I may prepare my own design for 2017.

Dreamed of creating custom fabrics?  Checkout spoonflower.com

I first read about Spoonflower in 2010, uploaded images, ordered swatches….outstanding!

They have been very busy over the years adding fabric options.  This is the short list:  Cotton ultra, Satin 100% polyester, Performance knits, Jersey, Light weight canvas, Twill, Faux suede…the latest product introduction is Sport Lycra.

They also offer opportunities to create custom wall paper and gift wrap.

What would look good in “bark”?
