This week we read the old-fashioned format…paper, hard cover, jacket of Legends and Lies, The Patriots by David Fisher. We recommend reading this compelling history of the founding of the United States, especially in an election season. Our politics were messy then, as now.

Let girls be girls! United Nations Women’s website identifies child marriage as a global problem thrwarting women’s development mentally (education is suspended), physically (bear children too early) and spiritually (vulnerable to violence).

For fifteen years, I have used a three step process to mitigate the slime and smell of kitchen waste. This year I added a fourth step.
All gardening starts with dirt. Yes, it is less expensive and messy to buy compost by the bag at garden centers. Homemade is better.

What in the world is IN Light IN?
No, IN Light IN is not a laser show.”We will not be having a single laser in this light festival,” said Joanna Nixon, who is helping to produce the event. “Instantly when I say light festival, I think what pops in people’s minds is a laser light show. Indianapolis has not ever seen anything like this, ever.”But what, exactly, is “this”?”We are really treating this festival very similar to a contemporary art exhibition,” Nixon said.So, here’s the gist: IN Light IN is a free two-day, 2.5-mile tour through more than 25 interactive light works of art along the Downtown Canal from the Indiana Statehouse north to 11th Street and stretching east along the Indianapolis Cultural Trail to the American Legion Mall. Many of the artworks put the attendee in them, either through projection, becoming a living canvas or controlling the lighted piece. Nixon expects 15,000 people to visit the festival each of the two nights, though there is a potential for more.
Unintentional…. furniture theme this month, thanks to inspiration from Houzz Ideabooks. My August 2nd post featured a reproduction “Ice Box” used for shoe storage/dresser plus a link to “Savvy Shoe Storage”. On August 16th, I posted a photo of a pair of upholstered barrel back chairs paired with link to “Antiques Today” from Houzz.
Here I go again. My favorite small desk from the Houzz Ideabook is number 4, the drop-down secretary from Pottery Barn. Surprise! maybe not… I have this small cherry drop-down writing desk of my grandfather’s in our guest room. It is paired with a chair featuring needle point seat cover made by my mother.

Old school…..decades of albums, prints (multiple sizes), boxes, negatives, framed….meets digital. This project is brought to you by my “27 cubic feet” reduction goal (of personal papers and stuff). Photo archives account for nearly 3 cubic feet.
Scan, scan, scan….also, rather than disposing of most of the vacation, birthday and holiday prints…I chose three albums to reconfigure with photos selected especially for three adult children. Perhaps that just stalls my effort or mission. My hope is it will bring smiles and fond memories…. without the hours of searching to find their precious moments. 😉
