Shuffle the deck

24 Feb

To prepare my third shipment for Days for Girls International, I indulged myself by shuffling “the decks” or stacks/bundles of reversible tri-fold pads to maximize the interest of colors and patterns with a kit.  Eight pads go in each kit.  Eight different colors/patterns were combined fifty times!  Yes for a total of 400 🙂                    www.daysforgirls.org

This shipment is topped off with 50 liners and no two alike.  Each liner has three different fabrics to maximize interest.

I bought this “big boy toy” –a Cub Cadet snow blower–several years ago.  I was in the game this morning using it to clear the driveway.

Actually, I was concerned that I would not get it restarted so…..

It looks like I plowed the street too!  Never know when you may need to borrow a cup of sugar.  🙂

Epicenter for Change

18 Feb

The tenet of I Ching (Book of Changes) is that all life is change.  The ancient Chinese observations are organized into 64 descriptions of expected/predictable changes.  When the element of time is added, transitions between these changes are also predictable (if, as modern Westerners we can understand the language and symbols).

Since adding my page “I Ching Inspiration”, I realized for the last 18 months there has been a LOT of change in and around my home here in the midwest.  For example:  a new roof, restoration of drainage (blocked by south neighbor), city water lines…plus the sale and renovation of our backdoor neighbor’s property of 40 years.  Here I go… with I Ching references and photos!

The abbreviated explanation comes from Wilhelm commentary The Spirit of the Art of Living: when threatened, in danger or deprived of power…to come to terms with it…stand still and wait, there may be guidance… claim destiny, simply proceed with faith and victory and progress. “Wow” I said to myself. “That is profound.”

Intriguing IChing Inspiration

9 Feb

I thoroughly enjoyed WordPress’ Photography 101 (Nov 14).  The challenging assignments were provoking because the best responses I had were not new photos.  I posted from my albums anyway.  The experience reminded me of the challenge in 1999 from a workshop inspired by IChing.  The purpose of the workshop was to create a collage.  To continue the study (of a subject I knew nothing about) I made more collages.

One thing leads to another…I wondered if I had photographs that could be a reasonable images for IChing readings….YES!  Now Friday Photos will feature “IChing Inspired” in addition to “Alphabet/Alliteration” subjects.

Because IChing is an obscure subject, I added a new page to this site that chronicles my study and references for inquiring minds.  Check it out!  Are you familiar with IChing?

Eve needs Emergency Exit!

“Eve” (for Christmas Eve 2006, when we found her in a cattle trailer) does not belong on the white table-cloth!  So, there are a couple of things wrong here…I am late putting away Christmas decorations and Eve should not consider playing with the M&M dispenser.

No harm done…this may be next year’s Christmas card photo.

36 Yards

25 Jan

36 yards of flannel fabric in process to make reversible tri-fold pads for Days for Girls International kits:

Bright colors preferred!  Each kit has eight pads.  These gallon size Ziplock bags are filled with eight in each.  Colors and patterns will be mixed for greatest interest.

Draw string bags hold the entire kit and includes one panty, one washcloth plus soap and two liners with PUL insert.

In case of a “Polar Vortex” this month, I was prepared to get a lot of work done. No “Polar Vortex”, however I am further along than I expected.  I bought the 36 yards of flannel, washed it and cut 8″X 9″ squares staging the material in my shipping box.  Each yard makes 10 reversible pads.  The perimeter of the flannel pad is top stitched for durability.

I chose to cut the corners for 3 to 4 pads at a time immediately before sewing and remove the hypotenuse of the scrap corners for a future latch hook project.

I like working with the bright colors, bold patterns and soft texture of the flannel.
